Hawaii Prep survived, but it took some extra time in the pool Wednesday to get it done.
After Kealakehe forced overtime on a late Hailey Yessis goal in the fourth quarter, Chloe Hughes netted the golden goal to give the defending BIIF champion Ka Makani (3-1) the 9-8 overtime victory in Waimea.
Hughes had four goals in the contest for Hawaii Prep and Sammie Sponer also added a pair.
Maiana Villegas led the Waveriders with four tallies in the loss.
Kealakehe (2-2) did get a win over rival Konawaena 17-10 to put a notch in the win column. Villegas racked up a whopping eight goals against the Wildcats, while Hannah Tomlinson rode a first-half hat trick to a six-goal game.
Jalen Gambee did most of the heavy lifting for Konawaena (0-3), putting six goals past the ‘Riders defense.
Kamehameha 17, Waiakea 8: On the eastside of the island, the Warriors (6-0) continued their tear through the BIIF.
Kamehameha raced out to a 12-1 lead before coasting to the comfortable victory over Waiakea.
Emma Kanoa led the way with a game-high eight goals, while Lahela Rosario added six more.
Summer Cassidy had four goals for Waiakea (1-3) in the loss.
Hilo 19, Keaau 3: Five first quarter goals from Jaelyn Estibilio set the pace in the pool for the Vikings (2-2), and Haliko Hauanio also added a hat trick against the winless Cougars.
